Galleri Mariann
Ahnlund is situated in Umeå in northern Sweden. It has ever since it started
up in 1984 put the stress on Swedish art and throughout the years made itself known
for its focusing on young artists –Many of today´s wellknown Swedish
artists have as very young been given the opportunity to exhibit in the gallery,
like for instance Jan Svenungsson (lives in Berlin today), Ebba Matz,
Stig Sjölund, Ann Edholm, Martin Ålund (all active abroad today).
In 1992 the Gallery founded a grant system. Every year since then a Travel
Grant has been given to a graduate MFA from the School of Fine Arts, University
of Umeå. Patrik Gustavsson, one of the exhibitors at MiArt 2003 received
the grant in 2001.
Besides the focusing on Swedish art the gallery also do international exhibitions.
Some examples from the latest years are Per Kirkeby (solo) Paul Bloodgood
and Cora Cohen together, both NY, Margarita Gluzberg, London, together
with Ann Edholm and Victoria Reynolds, Las Vegas)(solo).
